With PTS now live, you can help test the Sniper Combat Style.

Please answer the following questions:
  • Do the abilities available make this experience feel like you are playing a Sniper? Please explain why or why not.
  • Is the ability tree easy to understand?
  • If you have feedback on the different disciplines, please note your feedback accordingly so we can track it.
When providing feedback, please answer in as much detail as possible to help us understand your thought process and line of thinking.

If you have feedback about the Operative Combat Style, please post it here.

Thank you!

Operative and Sniper on the PTS!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the next phase of PTS featuring the Sniper and Operative Combat Styles. In case you missed it, we go through a bit of the philosophy behind the updates were making to Combat Styles in this article.

As with the Jedi Knight, we are still focused on streamlining ability sets in order to enable more player choice and maintain the unique identity of the class. All the constructive feedback we have been receiving from players who have dived into PTS has been helpful in identifying what experiences are crucial to players.

This phase of PTS will be slightly different than previous phases that have been tested. This will be the first time that players will see the work in progress (WIP) UI for the ability tree. You will no longer need to speak to a droid to select your Discipline. This is also the same for Guardian and Sentinel.

As always, please keep in mind the following reminders and a couple of new notes:
  • You will be be capped at level 75
  • Character copy is still not available at this time
  • Set bonuses are not enabled during this phase of PTS. Gear will still grant you their stats, but the set bonuses will not work.
  • Most ability mods are functional, but some will be marked as [IN DEV] to clarify that some may be in various stages of development and not 100% functional.
  • As the ability tree is a WIP, please note that some icons are duplicated.
One note I did want to add was regarding the feedback we have seen about gearing for PTS. The current experience is that players have to take some additional time to gear to their liking, and that is intentional. While 306 gear could be provided, customizable stats would not be available, so we opted to allow players to customize their stats to match their live experience as closely as possible. As we continue to release 7.0 content to be tested, we will continue to look for ways to make it simpler for players to gear up on PTS.

Additionally, I wanted to reiterate in this post that level 3 Speeder Level Piloting is granted at the Onderon Daily Board. Be sure to travel to Onderon to acquire this before venturing out to test any of the available Combat Styles.

For details on how to access the PTS server, please go here

For details on how to try out Sniper and Operative, please go here.

Feedback threads can be found in the following places:
Be sure to check out the Status Update post as well. I have added a Change Log that covers changes that were made to Guardian and Sentinel and have updated the known issues there.

Thanks!

Interview: Combat Styles in 7.0

Hi everyone,

I recently did an interview with Max and Sema, the content creators behind SWTOR Escape Pod Cast about Combat Styles. We covered quite a bit of information, including the teams goals and philosophies behind them. Hopefully this interview also addresses lots of questions that yall have been asking about Combat Styles in general. Below are some high level points that we chatted about:

  • We had the opportunity to take a close look at the state of the game for this release and address things such as balancing classes and the way we developed new abilities, thus opening the door for some fun stuff we can do in the future
  • Goals of Loadouts and Combat Styles, how many players can have, and our vision behind how they work
  • How we are managing flexibility and restrictions when it comes to switching Combat Styles
  • What the player experience is like if the player is brand new to SWTOR
  • Gearing changes will be coming to level 80, but we arent able to share details at this time. This will be something that players can look forward to testing in a future PTS phase
  • Changes that are coming to Utilities
  • Light vs Dark alignment and unlocking Light/Dark 5 for Legacy
  • Excited to share more through PTS and we are looking forward to sharing how all the pieces will fit together

Definitely check out the interview for all of the details about the above points!

Thanks all!

Galactic Seasons - Season 2 Updates

Hi all!

I wanted to take an opportunity to sit down with you and chat about some of the systemic changes we are moving toward with Galactic Seasons: Season 2.

You have all provided a ton of great feedback, both from our original PTS but also throughout this first Season. That feedback has helped us continue to shape and refine how Galactic Seasons looks and feels, and we would like to share that with you here before the next Season begins with the launch of Legacy of the Sith. Lets dive in!

Moving Priority Objectives Into Their Own Tab
With Season 2, we will be moving the Priority Objectives out of the greater Conquest Objectives list and putting them into their own tab within the Conquest Window. This was one of the largest points of feedback provided throughout the original Galactic Seasons PTS, and we are excited to get that adjustment in for Season 2.

When opening the Conquest window you will see two tabs--one for Conquest Objectives, and a second for Priority Objectives. By clicking on the Priority Objectives window, players will be able to see the list of Priority Objectives they have available to them, which/how many they have completed, and which/how many they still have available to complete.

Changes to Priority Objectives
Daily Emphasis is shifting to Weekly Emphasis
With Season 1 there was a strong emphasis on Daily participation. This is evident in both the feel of the Season as well as our Season 1 point allocation, as shown below:

Percent of Total Galactic Season Points - Season 1:
  • Login: 11% (Sub) / 8% (Free/Pref)
  • Weekly: 32% (Sub) / 33% (Free/Pref)
  • Daily: 57% (Sub) / 58% (Free/Pref)

For Season 2, we are flipping this around to instead focus on a week-to-week emphasis. As such, Season 2 will change from 2 Dailies and 2 Weeklies to 1 Daily and 10 Weeklies. Looking back at the Percent of Total Galactic Season Points allocation for Season 2, this is where it ends up:

Percent of Total Galactic Season Point - Season 2
  • Login: 9% (Sub) / 5% (Free/Pref)
  • Weekly: 74% (Sub) / 76% (Free/Pref)
  • Daily: 16% (Sub) / 19% (Free/Pref)

Our goals with this philosophy change is to:
  • Ease the stress of daily participation and the feeling of missing out if you simply cannot log in for that specific day, or series of days.
  • More closely align with the Login Reward philosophy of at your own pace.
  • Provide all players more time to plan their Galactic Seasons week; both for themselves and their friends.

Priority Objectives are no longer randomized
By moving off the day-to-day and into the week-to-week philosophy for Galactic Seasons, we are also removing the randomized granting of Priority Objectives. All players will be given the same 10 Weekly Priority Objectives for the week, which will change from week to week. We hope this provides a clearer map for players to plan out their week; when they want to attack each PO, and how (with or without friends).

Choose any 7 Weekly structure
To give a larger net of flexibility in Priority Objective options, players will only need to complete 7 out of the 10 Weekly Priority Objectives. Once a player has completed their chosen 7 Weekly Priority Objectives, the other 3 will then become locked out for the remainder of the week. We want to provide players a way to earn as many Galactic Season Points as possible each week, while being able to participate in Objectives they find the most appealing.

Daily Priority Objective is simply to earn Conquest
As mentioned above, there will only be 1 Daily Priority Objective which will simply consist of Earn Personal Conquest Experience. Our goal is to give players the flexibility to continue playing Star Wars: The Old Republic however they wish on a day-to-day basis, while still making progress in the Season.

In a later post, we will go into a few more details as to what the Season 2 Priority Objectives may look like. In the meantime, we would love to hear your initial thoughts on the proposed changes coming to Season 2 before we move into broader testing in a later PTS phase.

Thanks again for your continued feedback!

Lets hope this goes better than the last time I was on the forums.
Hi CatStar,

As this is essentially a bug report, I'll be moving this over to the bug report sub-forum. Can you provide a few more details about your experience? Are you only experiencing this with certain lights? Is this only happening in the Alderaan Estate? Does this happen 100% of the time?

Additionally, you can PM me a vid of the bug happening if that is more convenient for you.

Thanks,

Hey TrixxieTriss,

Sorry I missed this! Currently, we are targeting before month end. Should that change, I'll update this thread.

Similar! This time around, the new focus is intended to be Operative and Sniper. I'll be creating threads as I have been in the past to make sure players are aware of what to expect and that they have a place to provide feedback for both.

When I finally got to Onderon, I didn't get C2N2 and my mount speed was slower than speed 1.
This time on the Sentinel, I ignored my mail and when to Onderon as soon as I'd chosen my spec and gear. I unlocked C2N2 & the mount as soon as I got there. The mount worked at speed 3 and C2N2 was also immediately boosted in influence level.

If its not a bug, is there a chance BioWare could just enable speeder bike lvl 3 riding for all speeders and companion when we travel to the fleet the first time? Because I find testing on Onderon less optimal than testing in harder content like veteran / master mode flash points
Hi there,

Wanted to confirm that level 3 is granted via the Onderon Daily Board. Starting the daily questline will give you the companion, the mount, and level 3 Speeder Piloting. I'll also be updating the original post with these details so players are aware. And I have passed along the feedback about when level 3 is granted.

Thanks!

Hi folks,

There is a known issue regarding the in-game help portal in the Character Selection screen:
  • An "undefined" button is displayed in the in-game help portal in the Character Selection screen preventing players from creating a ticket in this window.
Our team is currently looking into it. In the meantime, you should be able to create a ticket when in-game.
