Next up in our "The Community Content Creators of SWTOR" we have Kid-Lee - YouTuber and Twitch streamer. His content ranges from providing news coverage, to Q & A sessions while playing the game. He recently provided coverage of our Community Cantina events at Star Wars Celebration and San Diego Comic-Con to his community who were unable to attend themselves!
When did you start playing SWTOR?
In my gaming career, I have had the opportunity to do a lot of beta and alpha testing for different games. I got lucky enough to get into the SWTOR beta program pretty early on. It was fun to see all the changes that were made to the game in those early beta days. Since launch, I have been subbed and play the game every week.
What is your fondest memory of playing the game?
I am such a big fan of MMOs and Star Wars. When the two of those things come together it can mean great things. Going through the 1-50 stories in SWTOR was such a great experience. The Bounty Hunter and Jedi Knight in particular. Hitting 50 for the first time is always a memorable experience and of course the first raid. Jumping into Eternity Vault was a ton of fun. The Soa fight was such a unique and interesting conflict. Of course, MMOs are all about meeting new people and hanging out with your friends. I have met so many great people in SWTOR.
What got you into being a content creator? Did you start first with Twitch or YouTube?
Yes, I started with YouTube first. Like so many others I was inspired by those who came before me. People like TotalBiscuit paved the way for future content creators and help develop many of the content creation methods that people use today. I didn't really think it would go anywhere. I never thought that millions of people would see my content. It's pretty crazy. The first SWTOR video I even posted was a preview of the Yellow/Black pre-order color crystal. From there I posted some story stuff, then some raid content. After that, I got into news, previews, and guides.
Has there been any difficulties producing content for both platforms?
Yes, for anyone who might not follow the current trends this has been a very hot topic. People are discovering that it's just too much work to fully produce for both YouTube and Twitch especially if you have a full-time job on top of it. Every day more and more people migrate to Twitch. In my opinion live streaming is a lot more fun than creating video content. Being able to instantly interact with your viewers adds a whole new level to content creation. It's understandable that not everyone likes the live aspect which is why I still try and produce some video content as I have time.
Do you have any tips for other content creators or people hoping to start?
These are the rules of Huttball.....I mean content creation.
- Take your personality and crank it to an 11
- Research, Research, Research (everything)
- Come up with a name that is easy to say, spell, and is something that no one else has.
- Specialize (Focus on one game, be "the" content creator for that game)
- Take your time. Don't rush out crappy content.
- Have people you trust analyze your content and give you feedback.
- When starting on Twitch hide your live view count. Focus on the stream not the number.
- For Youtube take the time to make really good thumbnails. They are one of the keys to success.
We want to thank Kid-Lee for taking the time to sit down with us, and we hope you enjoyed the interview with another member of our Content Creator Program!
