Basic Information

Throughout your adventures in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, you will come face-to-face with a wide range of interesting characters. Some will stop at nothing to see you destroyed, while others will offer to aid you on your mission. A select few will even elect to join your cause and stand by your side as you take on the toughest challenges in the galaxy. Your Companions will accompany you for a wide range of reasons, be it adventure, glory, or something more personal, and will swear themselves to helping you save – or conquer – the galaxy.

Your Companions, Contacts, and Followers are far more than just an extra blaster or lightsaber. Each one also has their own personality, and will provide you with information or commentary throughout your travels. In additional, their views of you will evolve as you progress in your story - your decisions can determine whether they will become your close friend or bitter enemy.

There are two main types of Companions: Contacts and Followers. Followers can be summoned and are capable of fighting and crafting for you, while contacts are NPCs that cannot be summoned. All Contacts and Followers are part of the Influence system introduced in Game Update 4.0, which replaced the older Affection system.

Influence

You can raise a Companion or Contact's Influence level from 1 to 50 in a variety of ways, with different characters having different caps and requirements to gain influence.

One way you can raise Influence levels is by using Companion Gifts. As you reach higher Influence levels, you will need higher rank companion gifts. The calculator below will tell you how many gifts of each rank and reaction type you will need to raise Influence levels.

Enter your Legacy % Bonus (0, 10%, 20%, or 30%), current Influence Level (1-50), and current Influence (the amount in your current Influence bar) and this calculator will tell you how many gifts of each rank and type to buy to reach level 50 Influence with your companion.

Influence Gained Per Companion Gift

For reference, we've included tables of the amount of Influence you will gain for each rank and quality of companion gift, with either a Like, Favorite, or Love reaction.

The new Influence "tier cut-offs" are Influence level 1, 6, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50. "Like" gifts have a 4x multiplier, "Favorite" gifts have a 9x multiplier, and "Love" gifts have a 16x multiplier.
