A look at the class changed in 4.0 KOTFE since our original class change articles.
The point of this article is to update on you on the class changes since our original class change articles. These are intended to provide a more in-depth list of changes than Bioware's official class change blogs. The bottom of this article contains in-depth data and info for theory crafters. Damage or heal co-efficient changes aren't mentioned here but are in the data outputs.

Mercenary
- Rocket out now has an icon:
Rocket OutInstantCooldown:20sJet backward 20 meters, gaining immunity to controlling effects while jetting. Cannot be used while immobilized or hindered. Requires two blasters. - Supercharged gas's effect for Combat support Cylinder, High Velocity Gas Cylinder and Combustible Gas Cylinder now only last for 8 seconds, down from 10.
- Supercharged gas's Supercharged burn effect only last for 4 seconds, down from 5.
- Rapid Scan's baseline heat cost is now 18, down from 20.
Utilities
- Adhesive Supplements in addition to it's previous effects now causes the slowing effect applied by Kolto Residue to last an additional 3 seconds.
- Adhesive Supplements now has an icon:
Adhesive SupplementsPassivePower Shot and Tracer Missile reduce the movement speed of targets they damage by 40% for 6 seconds. In addition, the slowing effect applied by Kolto Residue lasts an additional 3 seconds. - Bioware has moved all the utilities positions in the Disciplines windows without changing their tiers.
- The effect of Supercharged Defense now only lasts 8 seconds, down from 10.
- Supercharged Defense now has an icon:
Supercharged DefensePassiveActivating Supercharged Gas increases your defense chance by 15% and grants immunity to interrupts for 8 seconds. - Smoke Screen now has an icon:
Smoke Screen
PassiveRocket Out generates a Smoke Screen when used, keeping you from being leapt to or pulled and making you immune to interrupts and ability activation pushback for the next 4 seconds.
Bodyguard
- Healing Scan cooldown reduced to 12 seconds, from 13.5.
- Peacekeeper's effect now applies to Kolto Pods.
- Peacekeeper now has an icon:
Peacekeeper
PassiveIncreases the healing done by Kolto Missile, Kolto Pods, and Progressive Scan by 5%.
Arsenal
- Honed Lock now has an icon:
Honed Lock
PassiveTracer Lock increases the critical chance of the next Rail Shot or Rapid Scan by 3% per stack.
Innovative Ordnance
- Surging Shots now has an icon:
Surging ShotsPassiveDealing periodic damage grants Surging Shots, increasing the damage dealt by your next Power Shot or Sweeping Blasters by 1%. This effect can stack up to 10 times and lasts up to 15 seconds. - Power Barrels no longer reduces the cooldown of Unload.
- Flaming Wound now causes your attacks to deal 3% more damage to bleeding targets, down from 5%.
- Relentless Ordnance no longer increases crit chance.
- Superheated Gas now increases the damage dealt by Combustible Gas Cylinder by 10%, down from 30% and it's chance to trigger by 5%, down from 10%.
Powertech
Utilities
- Suppressive Tools now reduces the movement speed of affected targets by 30%, down from 50%.
- Jet Speed now has an icon:
Jet SpeedPassiveActivating Jet Charge grants Jet Speed, increasing movement speed by 30% for 4 seconds. The duration of Jet Speed is refreshed if attacked while it is active. - Explored Area now has an icon:
Explored AreaPassiveStealth Scan increases the movement speed of all allies within the scan area, excluding yourself, by 50% for as long as they remain within it and for 6 seconds after it expires or they leave the area. - Neural Delay now causes Neural Dart to slow the target by 50%, up from 30%.
- Neural Delay now has an icon:
Neural DelayPassiveNeural Dart slows the target by 50% for 6 seconds. - Bracer Propellant now increases the range of Flame Burst and Magnetic Blast by 2 meters, down from 5 and the radius of Flame Sweep by 1 meter, down from 2.
Shield Tech
- Translocate now only works on group members rather than all friendly targets.
- Translocate now has an icon:
TranslocateActivation:1.5sCooldown:90sRange:30mSwap places with a group member and bestow a benign presence upon them for up to 6 seconds. Targets with a benign presence are ignored by most enemies, cannot be leapt to or pulled, and are immune to interrupts and ability activation pushback until they use an aggressive or healing ability. This ability is immune to activation pushback and only works on other players. - Coolant now causes Explosive Fuel to increase defense chance by 35%, down from 40%.
- Heated Absorbers now has an icon:
Heated AbsorbersPassiveHeat Blast increases shield absorption by an additional 5%.
Pyrotech
- Superheated Flame Thrower's effect to increase the damage your next Flame Thrower deals now increases it by 15%, down from 25%.
- Firebug now only increases the critical bonus damage by 10%, down from 30%.
- Rain of Fire no longer causes kinetic and energy attacks to deal additional damage to burning targets.
- Perilous Flames now increases the critical chance of Immolate by 10%, down from 15%.
- Superheated Gas now increases the damage dealt by Combustible Gas Cylinder by 10%, down from 30%, and its chance to be triggered by 5%, down from 10%.
Advanced Prototype
- No additional changes.
Operative
Base (available to all specs)
- Holotraverse now has an icon:
HolotraverseInstantCooldown:45sRange:30mSupercharge your stealth generator, quickly moving you to a friendly or enemy target and increasing your movement speed by 75% for 3 seconds. Does not break stealth. Cannot be used against enemy targets in cover.
Utilities
- Circumvention now has an icon:
CircumventionPassiveHolotraverse can be used while immobilized and purges movement-impairing effects when used. - Curbing Shots now has an icon:
Curbing ShotsPassiveOverload Shot and Carbine Burst reduce the movement speed of targets they damage by 40% for 6 seconds. - Fortified Kolto now has an icon:
Fortified KoltoPassiveWhile your Kolto Probe is active on yourself, your damage reduction is increased by 3% per stack.
Medicine
- Incisive Action no longer applies to Kolto Infusion
- Enduring Kolto can now be used on Kolto Injection or Kolto Infusion.
- Enduring Kolto now has an icon:
Enduring KoltoPassiveIncreases the duration of Kolto Probe by 3 seconds. Additionally, Stim Boost grants Enduring Kolto when activated, making your next Kolto Infusion or Kolto Injection activate instantly. - Tactical Medicine now increases all healing done by 3%, down from 5%.
Concealment
- Prey on the Weak now has an icon:
Prey on the WeakPassiveLaceration deals 5% more damage to targets affected by your Acid Blade.
Lethality
- Acidic Compounds now has an icon:
Acidic CompoundsPassiveToxic Blast deals 5% more damage and Corrosive Grenade has a 10% chance to deal its damage twice whenever it harms a target.
Sniper
Base (available to all specs)
- Imperial Preparation now has an icon:
Imperial PreparationInstantCooldown:180sImmediately finishes the active cooldowns on Evasion, Countermeasures, Shield Probe, Cover Pulse, Entrench, and Covered Escape.
Utilities
- Bioware has moved around the positions of utilities in the Discipline window without changing the tiers of any of them.
- Lumbering Impact now has an icon:
Lumbering ImpactPassiveShatter Shot reduces the movement speed of the target by 50% for 10 seconds. - Over-prepared now has an icon:
Over-preparedPassiveReduces the cooldown of Imperial Preparation by 30 seconds and increases your damage reduction by 10% for 10 seconds after activating Imperial Preparation. - Pulse Screen now has an icon:
Pulse ScreenPassiveActivating Cover Pulse increases your chance to resist Force and tech attacks by 20% for 6 seconds.
Marksmanship
- Marksman's Finesse now has an icon:
Marksman's FinessePassiveSnipe grants Marksman's Finesse, increasing the armor penetration and damage dealt by your next Followthrough by 10%. Stacks up to 2 times.
Engineering
- Field Command now has an icon:
Field CommandPassiveIncreases the critical chance of your area attacks by 15%.
Virulence
- Caustic Substances now has an icon:
Caustic SubstancesPassiveWeakening Blast deals 5% more damage and Corrosive Grenade has a 10% chance to deal its damage twice whenever it harms a target.
Sith Inquisitor
- Force Speed cooldown increased from 20 seconds to 30 seconds.
Assassin
Base (available to all specs)
- Phantom Stride now has an icon:
Phantom StrideInstantCooldown:30sRange:30mUse the Force to move through time and space, appearing at your enemy target and increasing your movement speed by 75% for 3 seconds. Does not break stealth. Cannot be used against targets in cover. Requires a double-bladed lightsaber or electrostaff.
Utilities
- Assassin's Shelter has been redesigned:
Assassin's ShelterPassiveMass Mind Control provides Assassin's Shelter to all allies within range, excluding yourself, reducing the damage they take by 5% for the next 6 seconds and healing them for <<1>> health over the duration. - Speed Surge can now be activated by Shock, Ball Lightning, Crushing Darkness, or Demolish instead of Shock, Ball Lightning, or Leeching Strike. Speed Surge can now only occur every 18 seconds, up from 12.
- Speed Surge now has an icon:
Speed SurgePassiveActivating Shock, Ball Lightning, Crushing Darkness, or Demolish increases your movement speed by 50% for 9 seconds. This effect cannot occur more than once every 18 seconds. - Phasing Phantasm now has an icon:
Phasing PhantasmPassivePhantom Stride can be used while immobilized and purges movement-impairing effects when used.
Darkness
- Dark Bastion has been redesigned now has an icon:
Dark BastionPassiveThe cooldown of Dark Ward is reduced by 5 seconds, the shield chance it provides is increased by an additional 3%, and shielding an attack while it is active has a 20% chance to restore a charge and increase its active duration by 1 second. In addition, Dark Bulwark can build 2 additional stacks.
Deception
- Amped Voltage now has an icon:
Amped VoltagePassiveIncreases the damage dealt by Surging Charge's Discharge by 5%. Additionally, activating Phantom Stride while Surging Charge is active builds 3 Static Charges.
Hatred
- Languishing Lashes now has an icon:
Languishing LashesPassiveDealing melee damage increases the critical chance of your damaging periodic effects by 10% for 10 seconds.
Sorcerer
Utilities
- Dark Speed now has an icon:
Dark SpeedPassiveDark Heal increases the movement speed of the target by 50% for 6 seconds. This effect cannot occur more than once every 12 seconds. - Force mobility no longer applies to Force Barrier
- Dizzying Force now has an icon:
Dizzying ForcePassiveReduces target's accuracy by 20% for 8 seconds after Whirlwind ends. - Shifting Silhouette in addition to it's previous effects now reduces AoE damage by 30% and has a new icon:
Shifting SilhouettePassiveReduces all area of effect damage taken by 30%. In addition, using Phase Walk to return to its marked location grants Shifting Silhouette, keeping you from being leapt to or pulled and making you immune to interrupts and ability activation pushback for the next 6 seconds.
Corruption
- Secrets of the Dark Side now has an icon:
Secrets of the Dark SidePassiveIncreases the healing done by Roaming Mend by 5% and reduces the Force it consumes by 10.
Lightning
- Fulgurous Fortification now has an icon:
Fulgurous FortificationPassiveLightning Bolt increases your damage reduction by 3% for 10 seconds. Stacks up to 3 times.
Madness
- Fulminating Current now has an icon:
Fulminating CurrentPassiveDealing damage with Force Lightning increases the critical chance of your damaging periodic effects by 2% for 10 seconds. Stacks up to 4 times.
Sith Warrior
- Mad Dash now has an icon:
Mad DashInstantCooldown:45sMadly dash forward 20 meters, dealing <<1>> weapon damage to enemies in your path and increasing your defense chance by 100% while dashing. Cannot be used while immobilized or hindered.
juggernaut
Utilities
- Pooled Hatred now provides a 10% damage bonus, up from 5%.
- Unshackling Rage now has an icon:
Unshackling RagePassiveActivating Enrage purges movement-impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 50% for 6 seconds. - Oppressor can now be granted by Mad Dash.
- War Bringer now has an icon:
War BringerPassiveForce Charge enables your next Vicious Throw to be used against a target with any percentage of health. Lasts up to 15 seconds. - Thrown Gauntlet now reduces the cooldown of Intimidating Roar by 15 seconds instead of removing the Rage cost from Chilling Scream.
- Through Victory now has an icon:
Through VictoryPassiveMad Dash can be used while immobilized and purges movement-impairing effects when activated.
Immortal
- Defensive Slashes now has an icon:
Defensive SlashesPassiveDealing damage with Ravage increases your defense chance by 2%. Stacks up to 3 times and lasts for 6 seconds.
Vengeance
- Bloodmaster now increases damage for each of your bleeding effects on a target by 3%, down from 5%, and now has an icon:
BloodmasterPassiveFor each of your bleeding effects active on an enemy target, you deal 3% more bleed damage, up to a maximum of 9% more bleed damage while Shatter, Draining Scream, and Eviscerate are each bleeding a target. - Gushing Veins now increases critical chance of Shatter, Vengeful Slam, and bleeding effects by 5%, down from 10%
- Deafening Defense now only increases damage reduction by 5% at all times, down from 15%. It also no longer reduces the cooldown of Intimidating Roar and now reduces all AoE damage by 60% for 15 seconds after Threatening Scream is activated.
- Ravager now increases Ravage's damage by 5%, down from 20%.
Rage
- Enveloping Rage now has an icon:
Enveloping RagePassiveActivating Raging Burst or Smash increases your damage reduction by 5% for 6 seconds. This effect cannot occur more than once every 8 seconds. - Shii-Cho Mastery now increases armor penetration by 15%, down from 30%.
Marauder
Utilities
- Thirst for Rage now has an icon:
Thirst for RagePassiveBloodthirst generates 12 rage when activated. - Through Victory now has an icon:
Through VictoryPassiveMad Dash can be used while immobilized and purges movement-impairing effects when activated. - Unflinching Determination now has an icon:
Unflinching DeterminationPassiveActivating Saber Ward grants immunity to stun, sleep, lift, and incapacitating effects for 6 seconds.
Annihilation
- Annihilate's cooldown has been increase to 15 seconds, up from 12 seconds.
- Devious Wounds now increases bleed damage by 5%, down from 10%, for 4.5 seconds up from 3 seconds. It also now has an icon:
Devious WoundsPassiveAnnihilate increases the bleed damage you deal by 5% for 4.5 seconds after use. - Deadly Saber is now granted at level 58, up from 26. I don't usually cover what levels you get abilities but I am scratching my head at this one.
- Rupture now lasts 9 seconds, up from 6.
- Force Rend now grants 3 Rage, lasts for 9 seconds, down from 15 seconds, has a 15 second cooldown and no longer costs Rage.
- Enraged Charge has been removed.
- Close Quarters has been removed.
- A new talent, Hastened Rend has been added:
Hastened RendPassiveReduces the cooldown of Force Rend by 3 seconds. - A new talent Enraged Rend has been added:
Enraged RendPassiveForce Rend builds 1 additional rage. - Swift Demise has been redesigned: Juyo Form and Annihilator build two stacks at a time. In addition, Annihilate has a 50% chance to build Swift Demise when activated, increasing the damage your next Vicious Slash or Vicious Throw deals by 5% per stack. Stacks up to 2 times.
Carnage
- Bloody Slashes now has an icon:
Bloody SlashesPassiveDamage dealt by Ravage stacks a bleeding effect on the target that builds up to 3 charges and deals up to <<1>> internal damage over 9 seconds. - Sever now increases the critical strike damage bonus of Massacre and Devastating Blast by 10%, down from 30%.
Fury
- Furious Rage now has an icon:
Furious RagePassiveFurious Strike grants Furious Rage, increasing the critical damage bonus for your next Smash or Raging Burst by 15%. - Shii-Cho Mastery now increases armor penetration by 30%, down from 15%.
- Dark Resonance renamed to Vehemence and increases critical strike damage of all attacks by 10%, down from 15%.
