Introduction to Amplifiers

The ‘Onslaught' Expansion brings a lot of changes to the current gearing system, including new Set Bonuses, a new type of gear called Tactical items, a new supplementary stat system called Amplifiers, and more! While we've showcased how Set Bonuses and Tacticals function in a series of articles, we wanted to take this opportunity to explain the finer details of how Amplifiers work.

Our Goal

Our goal for creating the Amplifier system was to add an extra level of depth for players to customize their characters. Amplifiers provide a mixture of both power and utility, allowing players of all types to build the way they want. Whether it's an Operation group getting an extra edge over a Master Mode boss, a ranked PvPer getting some extra survivability during their matches, or a crafter getting better efficiency… there's something for everyone!

Functionality

Amplifiers come in the form of randomly assigned bonuses that appear on Item Shells, Armorings, Hilts, Barrels, and Mods. Each of these categories have a different pool of Amplifiers that they can pull from. Amplifiers don't have a level requirement, but they will start appearing on items once a player reaches a certain quality threshold.

Armorings, Hilts, and Barrels have "primary" Amplifiers that are more focused on combat. This could include increased damage or healing done, or a reduction of damage taken. Players will start seeing primary Amplifiers on the listed modification types at Artifact (purple) quality and above. Additionally, in Onslaught, unmoddable gear pieces of premium (green) quality and above will also contain a single primary amplifier. Here is a list of every "primary" Amplifier:

  • Armor Penetration - Kinetic and energy damage attacks ignore a portion of the target's armor.
  • Aural Command - Increases the damage dealt by attacks that affect an area.
  • Aural Rejuvenation - Increases the healing done by abilities that affect an area.
  • Aural Resistance - Reduces the damage taken from attacks that affect an area.
  • En Garde - Reduces damage taken for ten seconds after entering combat.
  • Alpha Strike - Increases damage done for ten seconds after entering combat.
  • Force Harmonization - Increases the healing done by Force abilities.
  • Force Protection - Reduces the damage taken from Force attacks.
  • Force Sensitivity - Increases the damage dealt by Force attacks.
  • Fortuitous Redoubt - Deflecting, dodging, or parrying an attack generates a redoubt to absorb a percentage of incoming damage for five seconds.
  • Medtech - Increases the healing done by tech abilities.
  • Overward - Over healing a target grants them an absorption shield which can grow in strength based on the amount you over heal them up to a percentage of their maximum health.
  • Readied Healing - Increases healing done for ten seconds after entering combat.
  • Periodic Intensity - Increases the damage dealt by periodic effects.
  • Periodic Resilience - Reduces the damage taken from periodic effects.
  • Periodic Restoration - Increases the healing done by periodic effects.
  • Presence - Increases the combat effectiveness of your companion.
  • Reinforced Armor - Reduces the damage taken from weapon attacks.
  • Residual Recovery - Causes direct heals to leave a heal over time on the target.
  • Shield Reflection - Reflects a percentage of shielded damage back at the attacker.
  • Tech Aegis - Reduces the damage taken from tech attacks.
  • Tech Wizardry - Increases the damage dealt by tech attacks.
  • Weapon Expertise - Increases the damage dealt by weapon attacks.

Mods have "secondary" Amplifiers that are general quality of life improvements. These can range from increased Crewskill Mission success rates, increased mount speed, reduced repair costs, and more! Mods can have Amplifiers starting at Prototype (blue) quality and above. Here is a list of every "secondary" Amplifier:

  • Critical Armormech - Increases Armormech crafting critical success chance.
  • Critical Armstech - Increases Armstech crafting critical success chance.
  • Critical Artifice - Increases Artifice crafting critical success chance.
  • Critical Biochem - Increases Biochem crafting critical success chance.
  • Critical Cybertech - Increases Cybertech crafting critical success chance.
  • Critical Synthweaving - Increases Synthweave crafting critical success chance.
  • Durable Equipment - Equipment loses durability more slowly.
  • Frequent Flyer - Lowers the cost of interplanetary travel.
  • Influential - Increases the amount of influence your companions gain from all sources.

Lastly, Shells will have "tertiary" Amplifiers that provide a variety of benefits. These could offer a boost to Crewskill efficiency, a faster rate of gaining Experience/Renown XP, increased rewards from PvP activities, and more. Amplifiers on Shells are the most common and will start appearing at Premium (green) quality and above. Here is a list of every "tertiary" Amplifier:

  • Armormech Efficiency - Improves time efficiency for Armormech crafting.
  • Armstech Efficiency - Improves time efficiency for Armstech crafting.
  • Artifice Efficiency - Improves time efficiency for Artifice crafting.
  • Biochem Efficiency - Improves time efficiency for Biochem crafting.

  • Resourceful - Increases the chance to obtain a bonus yield when harvesting a resource.
  • Starfighter Rewards - Increases the Experience Points and Renown Points earned from completing a Galactic Starfighter battle.

The bonuses gained from Amplifiers are cumulative, meaning they stack together. For example, let's say that a player has twelve Shells, all with the "Efficient Treasure Hunting" Amplifier. The boost on this Amplifier can range from +0.15% to + 1.50% per Amplifier; in total, that's a potential 18% boost! Each Amplifier roll will have an associated color (green, blue, purple, gold) so players can easily gauge their overall quality. In the Amplifier menu, players will also be able to see every available Amplifier for that specific piece of equipment, as well as the boosts' range.

While there are currently no plans to add Amplifiers to Augments, Amplifiers will appear on Enhancements in the future. When that happens, they will be retroactively added to all of a player's eligible Enhancements!

Re-Rolling

We wanted to ensure that when a player wants to work towards a specific Amplifier, they could do so without replacing the entire mod or piece of gear. To do this, we are introducing Amplifier re-rerolling. By simply clicking on the Amplifier in the modification window, or in the new Amplifier window, players can bring up the new re-roll UI. By spending credits, players will see two—always new--Amplifier options appear. The player then has three options: pick one of the new Amplifiers, re-roll again, or keep their current Amplifier. The more a player re-rolls for the same Amplifier, the Credit cost will increase over time.

Amplifiers are joined by Tactical items and an abundance of new Set Bonuses with the Onslaught Expansion!
