You are understanding correct, when a player uses the vent it will take them to their side of the map defensively. You cannot use the vent offensively. You are right in that it doesn't directly make the pit less punishing, but it does allow teams to play defense more easily.

Nice, that should alleviate pretty much all our concerns. I'll make sure to test it and give feedback. The way you expressed this sounds very strange. Changing the air vents has no direct impact on how punishing the knockbacks into the pit are. There is an indirect impact in that defending is easier which would be an improvement. But I don't understand how the air vents can put you in a defensive position; it is either the offensive or the defensive side depending on what team you are on (unless you are put in a different position based on your team). I'll have to try it out during the playtests. I'm not sure how I feel about having the air vents put me in a defensive position. When I am the ball carrier, I often go straight to the air vent and not to the ramps. That way, the enemy team is confused where I am and I have some seconds of breathing room instead of being hindered and rooted all the time. From what I understand, after this change this will no longer work and I am forced to use the ramps. Not a big deal, just a change to the PvP meta that I'll have to get used to. |
