The way you expressed this sounds very strange. Changing the air vents has no direct impact on how punishing the knockbacks into the pit are. There is an indirect impact in that defending is easier which would be an improvement.
But I don't understand how the air vents can put you in a defensive position; it is either the offensive or the defensive side depending on what team you are on (unless you are put in a different position based on your team).
I'll have to try it out during the playtests.

I'm not sure how I feel about having the air vents put me in a defensive position.
When I am the ball carrier, I often go straight to the air vent and not to the ramps. That way, the enemy team is confused where I am and I have some seconds of breathing room instead of being hindered and rooted all the time. From what I understand, after this change this will no longer work and I am forced to use the ramps. Not a big deal, just a change to the PvP meta that I'll have to get used to.
You are understanding correct, when a player uses the vent it will take them to their side of the map defensively. You cannot use the vent offensively. You are right in that it doesn't directly make the pit less punishing, but it does allow teams to play defense more easily.

Upcoming PTS Patch

We are aiming to try to have a new PTS patch this week, to be deployed tomorrow. It is possible it will slip to next week, but I will let you know for sure tomorrow. We will have mirrored playtests from last week, if it goes live this week.

Here are some of the changes we are making based on your feedback:
  • Made some environmental changes to the map to make it feel a bit less "cluttered."
  • Removed the "box stack" in the center catwalks and replaced them with forcefields. This gives more visibility across the map as well.
  • Throw the Huttball will now stay in the first pop-up slot if you also have the Gravity Grapple ability. This should address concerns for players who keybind the Throw the Huttball ability.
  • The Gravity Grapple ability should now work when hit with a ballistic from all abilities.
  • Baron Deathmark will now yell at you when you kick the Huttball, NO KICKING.
  • Added colored arrows around the map to help with navigation.
  • Fixed various collision and asymmetry issues around the map.
  • To help alleviate some concerns such as being knocked in the pit being punishing and challenges in being able to defend properly, the central air vents on the map will no longer be random. Instead they will now always jump the player back to a defensive position on the catwalk.
All of these changes along with the Crit / Shield changes should be in the next PTS patch. Look for more updates tomorrow.

The current intent is to address these issues with 5.9.3.

I believe all investigations have concluded or are very close (today). Rewards should go out this week! The process of granting them is a manual one but that shouldn't create too much more of a delay. Thank you again to everyone for your patience. Introducing the "off-season" again with S10 should alleviate these issues.

Appreciate the desire to help test! To abate any concerns, we will also be planning playtests for next weekend as well, likely Friday and Saturday again. I will post more details on timing next week.

Totally right on the short playtimes. I will make sure to be online on PTS tonight to monitor population. This way I can let people know if we have to call off the session if we don't have enough people.

Unfortunately due to the way that PTS works currently, small patches aren't possible for updates like this. We're always looking for ways to improve it though.

Vandin Huttball Playtest Sessions

  • Saturday, 9/1 10AM: 12PM PDT (5PM - 7PM GMT)
Like always, we will be running around playing incognito alongside you! Hop in and don't forget to pass on your feedback on the new map, here.

In order to participate simply have a character of any level on any faction and queue up within the specific window. As a note, if you end up in an Arena match instead of Vandin, do your best not to leave the match. Instead try to complete it as quickly as possible and then requeue.
